PROGRAM NOTE

The story of the sinking of the Sewol and its 476 passengers is not over. Although it’s hard to face, this film details the struggles of reporter Lee Sang-ho and president of Alpha Diving Technology, Lee Jong-in. The truth about the situation surrounding the diving bell during the 15 days following 8:48 AM on April 16, 2014 is divulged in detail, also bringing out the truth about what happened at Paengmok-hang Harbor. We know all too well that despite a variety of emerging new media, the news is easily distorted. This film shows how difficult the fight against those trying to hide the truth is, and diving bell emerges as one of the key issues in this catastrophe throughout the film. The Truth Shall Not Sink with Sewol is a 15-day record of the efforts made to hold on to the truth that almost sank with the ship. (KONG

DIRECTOR

LEE Sang-ho

Started by working for the MBC newsroom and became a social and political journalist, before Lee expanded his career as an investigative journalist with Camera Dispatch, Editorial Magazine 2580. In 2005, his report “Samsung X file” gave him This Year’s Journalist Award from the Journalists
 Association of Korea.

AHN Hae-ryong

Ahn explores documentary, photography and exhibition. From 1995 he produced the exhibition ‘silent scream’ and ‘Please talk’ where which he showed recordings of sexual slavery of the Imperial Japanese Army. His documentary films include Wounds not yet Healed(2003), My Mind Still
 There(2007). He is now working on a project about Korean-Japanese and their experience of historical education.
